About Network Storage
CASIT provides network storage, maintaining a large file cluster to support file storage needs within CAS. This system is highly resistant to data loss: we back up all data in three different ways including sending a full backup off campus.
Data security is very important to us. We have the system set up using Duck ID authentication for all file access with a very tightly contorted permission structure to prevent unauthorized access.
Department Network Storage
All departments within the College of Arts and Science are provided a network file share for storage of data. Currently 1TB (1 terabyte = 1000 gigabytes) of space is provided free to each departmental administrative office for use for their entire department.
More space can be purchased from CASIT. If you think you need more than 1TB please contact us.
Individual User Network Storage
All faculty, staff and GTFs employed by CAS receive 100GB of network storage for individual use at no charge. This data is secured in such as way that only the user that owns that data has access.
If you want to learn how to connect to your storage or want more information please contact us.
From off-campus, CAS personnel can access Network Attached Storage by establishing a VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection. VPN creates a secure, encrypted ‘tunnel’ that keeps your data secure in transit. UO Information Services offers free VPN software for your use. This software is available here.
