Exchange: Thunderbird for macOS and Windows

This article is designed to guide macOS and Windows users through the process of configuring Mozilla Thunderbird to access their Exchange account for email and calendaring.


CASIT can only support the configuration of Thunderbird to connect to the UO Exchange service. We cannot provide troubleshooting or additional assistance.

Please note that Thunderbird provides access to email only. The use of other Exchange features is not supported.

Configuring Exchange Account

  1. Open Mozilla Thunderbird
  2. Select the three horizontal lines in the top right to display the Thunderbird menu and select Options
  3. Then select Account Settings
  4. Select Server Settings under your account on the left
  5. Update the fields listed below with the Exchange server settings
    1. Server Name:
    2. Port: 993
    3. Connection security: SSL/TLS
    4. Authentication method: Normal Password
  6. Select Outgoing Server(SMTP) on the left, then select Edit…
  7. Update the fields listed below with the Exchange server settings:

    1. Description (optional): Exchange
    2. Server Name:
    3. Port: 587
    4. Connection security: STARTTLS
    5. Authentication method: Normal Password
    6. and select OK to proceed
  8. Select OK to close the Account Settings dialog box
