Exchange: Thunderbird for macOS and Windows

This article is designed to guide Windows users through the process of configuring Mozilla Thunderbird to access their Exchange account for email and calendaring.

Considerations

CASIT can only support the configuration of Thunderbird to connect to the UO Exchange service. We cannot provide troubleshooting or additional assistance.

Please note that Thunderbird provides access to email only. The use of other Exchange features is not supported.

Adding Exchange Account

  1. Open Mozilla Thunderbird
  2. Select the three horizontal lines in the top-right to display the Thunderbird menu

  3. Select Options > Account Settings

  4. In the bottom left select Account Actions > Add Mail Account

  5. Enter Your nameEmail address (duckid@uoregon.edu email address), and Password and select Continue

  6. Select Manual config in the bottom left corner

  7. Configure incoming server settings as follows:
    1. Protocol: IMAP
    2. Server hostname: exchange.uoregon.edu
    3. Port: 993
    4. SSL: SSL/TLS
    5. Authentication: NTLM
  8. Configure outgoing server settings as follows:
    1. Protocol: SMTP
    2. Server hostname: exchange.uoregon.edu
    3. Port: 587
    4. SSL: STARTTLS
    5. Authentication: NTLM

  9. In Username: Incoming:  enter your duckid@uoregon.edu email address
  10. In Username: Outgoing:  enter your duckid@uoregon.edu email address
  11. Select Done
  12. Allow time for emails to be downloaded from the Exchange server
  13. On Mac computers, after adding your Exchange account, select if you would like to use it as your default email application

Removing Webmail Account

Please consult CASIT before removing your Webmail account if you need assistance with making sure contacts, calendar events, notes, etc. are saved and transferred correctly.

  1. Open Mozilla Thunderbird

  2. Click the three horizontal lines in the top left to open the menu and select Options > Account Settings

  3. Highlight the account you would like to remove and in the bottom left select Account Options > Remove Account

  4. Close and re-open the Thunderbird application
  5. Click the three horizontal lines in the top left to open the menu and select Options > Account Settings

  6. Confirm that the Webmail account has been removed
